PORT NIKA-TERA RESUMES TRANSSHIPMENT OF NITROGEN FERTILIZERS

10 June 2020, Mykolaiv, Ukraine. – Sea special port NIKA-TERA, which is a part of Group DF, resumed transshipment of nitrogen fertilizers. In particular, in the third cargo district of the port two vessels with ammonia nitrate of Ukrainian production were successfully loaded. The export shipment was sent to markets of India and Turkey.

“For the first time for the last 5 years our port resumed transshipment of nitrogen fertilizers, – said Alim Ahakishiiev, Director of NIKA-TERA port. – I hope for further growth of production in Ukrainian chemical industry and respective growth of export. As far as I understand, growth or decline of chemical industry will largely depend on how effectively the government can protect Ukrainian market of nitrogen fertilizers and Ukrainian chemicals. With the growth of volumes of production of mineral fertilizers and export, Ukrainian ports can load their capacities better and consequently can earn more.”

According to Alim Ahakishiiev timely modernization and renewal of machinery allowed port to reach high tempo of cargo processing.

For example, technological cycle of transshipment of the first shipment of ammonia nitrate in 2020 consisted of 4 stages and look in the following way:

  • Stage 1.Arrival of ammonia nitrate in half-carriages to the port. (Packaging – soft containers (big-bags) weighing 1 ton)
  • Stage 2. Unloading of big-bags from carriages (telescopic handlers Sennebogen and Fuchs are used)
  • Stage 3.Placement of containers on wooden trays in 4 layers (Toyota loaders are used).
  • Stage 4. Reloading of fertilizers directly to cargo hold of vessels (traveling cranes GANZ and telescopic fork lifts Telehandler are used).

“On all stages of handling of cargo the port applies the latest machinery. That is why we can ensure high speed of transshipment. This is our competitive advantage”, – emphasized director of the port.

Port NIKA-TERA is located in Mykolaiv oblast and has 8 commercial moorages. The port includes 4 specialized complexes (cargo districts): grain complex, complex for grain, grit and mineral fertilizers transshipping, complex for transshipment of bulk cargo and open storage and packaged cargo, as well as a complex for transshipment of liquid cargo.

In 2019 the terminal handled 410 vessels and transshipped 8,637 M tons of cargo. Compared to 2018 the growth of transshipment volumes made up 2,8 M tons or 48%. According to results of the 1st quarter of 2020 cargo turnover of the port made up 1,87 M tons of cargo (it is by 1,5% more than the result of the same period in 2019).
