16 July 2020, Sievierodonetsk. Ukraine. – According to the results of the first half-year of 2020 “Azot” located in Sievierodonetsk that is a part of group of companies Group DF, produced 330,78 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers (in contrast to 103,89 thousand tons for the same period of the previous year). In particular, the plant produced 192,07 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate, 122,58 thousand tons of carbamide, 3,3 thousand tons of aqua-ammonia solution, 12,83 thousand tons of UAN. Besides the plant has also produced 153,11 thousand tons of ammonia and 3,32 thousand tons of liquid carbon dioxide.
“Growth of fertilizer production in the first half-year is the result of relaunching of full production cycle at the plant. In March we launched the production shop for ammonia production 1-А, and it allowed increasing gradually production of ammonium nitrate and starting production of carbamide. However, the plant is now loaded only by 30% and we cannot talk about further similar dynamics of production after the last resolution of the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade not to implement restrictions on import of nitrogen fertilizers in Ukraine. Due to the abundance of fertilizers imported from Russia the plant will be forced to reduce the current pace. We have to re-consider our production plans quickly. Instead of hiring new personnel we, on the contrary, have to dismiss them. We will have to fire up to 30% of our staff. It is responsibility of the government and a result of incompetence and inefficient politics of theirs in the sphere of industry,” – mentioned Leonid Buhaiov, Chairman of “SIEVIERODONETSK UNION AZOT”.
He explained: products by Ukrainian manufacturers cannot compete in price with Russian fertilizers, since the cost of the main raw material in Russia – natural gas – is lower by almost 2,5 times than in Ukraine. Despite the embargo effective from spring 2019 to import fertilizers directly from Russia, nitrogen fertilizers are imported to Ukraine through other countries – Belarus, Georgia, Poland and Latvia.
“Resolution not to limit import of nitrogen fertilizers to Ukraine was lobbied by Russian lobbyists and heavily affected all chemical industry of Ukraine. Resolution of the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade is a terrible stroke for the region. Azot is one of the largest enterprises in Luhansk oblast. Due to this anti-Ukrainian resolution of the government people living close to frontline will lose their jobs, and the region will not receive dozens of millions hryvnas from taxes,” – emphasized Leonid Buhaiov.
In the first half-year of 2019 the enterprise produced 100,46 thousand tons of ammonium nitrate, 1,22 thousand tons of aqua-ammonia solution, 2,21 thousand tons of UAN.
“SIEVIERODONETSK UNION AZOT” (Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk oblast, Ukraine) is one of the largest Ukrainian chemical enterprises, from 2011 is a part of Group DF. The main direction of enterprise’s activity is production of nitrogen mineral fertilizers. The enterprise includes shops for ammonia production 1-А (capacity – 1700 tons/day) and 1-Б (1360 tons/day), shop for carbamide production (1200 tons/day), shop for nitric acid production (1440 tons/day),shop for ammonium nitrate (1550 tons/day), as well as other subdivisions.
In 2019 the enterprise produced 384,09 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers. In particular, ammonium nitrate – 371,66 thousand tons, aqua-ammonia solution – 1,65 thousand tons, UAN – 10,78 thousand tons. Besides, in 2019 the union produced 296,2 thousand tons of non-concentrated nitric acid.
