PORT NIKA-TERA FINISHED MODERNIZATION OF THE SECOND CARGO DISTRICT

28 May 2020, Mykolaiv, Ukraine. – “Sea special port NIKA-TERA”, which is a part of Group DF, finished another stage of modernization of a second cargo district that is specialized in handling of bulk cargo. In particular, the port finished construction and started maintaining of a modern moorage and weighing complex.

A new weighing complex consists of two lines. Maximum capacity of each line is up to 1800 m3 per hour.

Assembling of shore tank scales was carried out without interruption of the main technological process of loading vessels due to individually elaborated project and unique methodology of assembling. The end of construction of the complex in fact meant the end of repurposing of the second cargo district to transshipment of grains and grist. Earlier this cargo district specialized exclusively in handling of mineral fertilizers.

The new moorage and weighing complex underwent all the required tests and certification in the National scientific centre “Institute of metrology”.

According to Alim Ahakishyiev, Director of the port, investment in the second cargo district allowed to increase traffic capacity of the port considerably, along with the general potential of the company. The new weighing complex allows performing weighing of agricultural cargo faster and more precisely during their loading to water transport.

Construction of the weighing complex is a part of large-scale program of technical re-equipping of cargo districts. Reconstruction of the second cargo district was done by stages, starting from 2017 and included: repurposing of storages for mineral fertilizers to storing grains and grist, construction of two stations for unloading of automobiles, modernization of stations for unloading of railway carriages, as well as assembling of moorage and weighing complex.

Totally a port shareholder invested over 40 M hryvnas to modernization of cargo district 2. Earlier shore tank scales operated only at the first cargo district which specializes in transshipment of grains. After repurposing of the second district it is possible to perform weighing and loading of 4 vessels with grains on different moorages simultaneously.

“We are building a modern port that meets the best international practices. A shareholder of the company, Dmytro Firtash, continues investing large resources into the company. Investments allow increasing traffic capacity of the port, help improve quality of service, – says Alim Ahakishyiev. – Cost of a new moorage and weighing complex is around 1 M dollars млн. доларів, and its technical characteristics comply with all rules of GAFTA (Grain and Feed Trade Association). We appreciate trust of our clients and continue developing the port in order to meet their needs.”

The port includes four specialized complexes (cargo districts): grain complex, transshipment complex for mineral fertilizers, grains and grits, bulk cargo, packaged cargo, as well as liquid cargo.

The port is located in Mykolaiv region close to the Black sea (on the left bank of Buh estuary) and has 8 commercial moorages.

In 2019 the terminal handled 410 vessels, and transshipped 8,637 M tons of cargo. Compared to 2018 the increase made up 2,8 M tons or 48%. According to the results of the first quarter of 2020 tons handled amounted to 1,87 M tons, which is by 1,5% more than the respective figure for the same period of 2019.

From autumn 2011 the terminal is a part of Group DF, which from 2011 has invested over 1,5 B hryvnas in development of the port. Investments allowed the company to increase its capacities considerably: capacity of grain storages from 40 to 300 thousand tons. At present capacity of grain storages is up to 515 thousand tons. The largest investment projects now are building of modern grain storage of silo type, building of their own railway complex, launch of complex for transshipment of liquid cargo, as well as constant extension and modernization of fleet and storage capacities.
