Real summer heat that came to the majority of Ukrainian regions these days makes agricultural producers think about main dangers that it can bring. For instance, active propagation of spider mite which caused considerable losses to many farms last year.
Expansion of spider mite starts in April-May at 12-15°С. In May-June they migrate to crops, where they can grow till August. Most frequently spider mites live on soybean. However, last year this pest was also found in corn and sunflower fields in southern regions of Ukraine and in Vinnytsia oblast. Mykola Prodius, product manager at ALFA Smart Agro, told about it during the webinar “Protection of soybean against phytophagans in 2020”.
According to him, this year this pest was already found in sunflower in Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts. Expansion of habitat makes fight against spider mite harder. That is why in order to control this pest a powerful acaricide is needed, which can not only kill existing insects, but also ensure lasting protection for the crop. A new innovative product by ALFA Smart Agro Sintak which appeared on the market in 2020 can perform these functions. This brand-new product has a number of advantages compared to traditional insecticides that are used for control over spider mites.
First of all, Sintak has an immediate effect and can ensure full extinction of adult mites within the first 24-48 hours after its application. Secondly, it kills mites on all stages of their development. Undoubtedly another advantage of the product is duration of the protective effect – up to 50 days from the moment of spraying. It means that one application is enough to solve the problem till the end of a vegetation period of crops. Besides, Sintak is a suspension concentrate which allows having a mild effect on crop and prevent “burns” on leaves.
The expert also mentioned that defects caused by drought or other diseases can sometimes be mistakenly attributed to mites. Therefore when making a decision to use acaricides one must check for mites, not for visual symptoms on leaves. Use of Sintak is recommended when there 3-5 insects on soya leaf during bud formation phase and 2-3 insects during bean formation phase. Pocket microscope, magnifying glass or white paper (it is necessary to shake off mites on the sheet) are used to check mites on plants.
